Robert A. Sanford, 35, of New Bedford, died Sunday, June 14, 2020 after a long illness.

Born in Falmouth, he was the son of Shirelle Sanford-Silva and stepson of Kenneth Silva both of New Bedford.  Robert graduated from Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in 2004 and attended Cape Cod Community College.

Robert was a civilian mechanic for the Mass. Military Division at Joint Base Cape Cod.  He was also currently serving in the Massachusetts National Guard.  Robert enjoyed basketball and was a former coach for the Wareham JBA.

Sgt Sanford was probably one of the best soldiers I have had the honor to serve with. He was a great NCO, mentor and friend. He was a great leader and overall an amazing human being.
