Many of you know of our love for Seymour, Sarah and Jonah’s cat and our grand-cat, who faced such a long haul of medical issues and disabilities with courage and resilience. The diagnoses were manageable for a long time: disrupted thyroid (hypothyroid); hypercalcemia (high levels of calcium); chronic bronchitis; chronic kidney disease; recurrent bacterial hepatitis; anemia; dermatitis; and extreme mobility issues with finally near the end, inability to walk owing to spinal cord compression. This past weekend, a severe urinary blockage (that was predicted to recur owing to the spinal compression) finally became too much, and Sarah and Jonah said good bye, holding Seymour in love at the emergency vet.
I’ve never before done anything like this, setting up a Go Fund Me. Charlie and I have contributed over the years to Seymour’s expenses but the total for 2024 alone is an overwhelming $21,000+ before pet insurance and $7,400 after pet insurance. (This doesn’t include his special food; it includes medical costs, medicine costs, and end-of-life.) This is a great deal of money for a young couple. Unconditional love for an animal with multiple disabilities and needs shouldn’t cause this kind of expense or debt. Thank you for reading and considering, it means a lot to me.
