August 15, 2021, was the day that I gained my in-laws, Enayat and Najia Fana. It was also the day that Afghanistan fell back to Taliban rule.
While they were preparing to view our wedding online, fear and hopelessness abruptly took over millions of lives– theirs included. They lost their jobs, home, and security instantaneously. They fled to Pakistan for refuge, leaving everything they had worked for behind. It took six months of what felt like an eternal limbo to receive their American visas. After many sleepless nights and much anticipation, they finally arrived in the states last week to reunite with their two sons after more than a decade.
While their paperwork does not qualify for refugee status, Mr. and Mrs. Fana need help resettling here in Michigan. They are currently living with their eldest son, but they hope to establish themselves and become independent once again. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time war and unrest in their homeland have forced them to flee and rebuild from ground zero. This time, we're hoping to make things a little easier for them with the help of you.
At the moment, the needs we're focusing on are:
- Medical Insurance
- Clothes (Winter & Summer)
- Housing
- Household Goods
Thank you for your support!
