Seth's Eagle Scout Project

Dear Family and Friends,

Most of you have known me my entire life.  I have been blessed with a great family and many great friends.  Anyone who knows me knows that my life revolves around family, school, music, God, and Scouts.  I am very thankful to have had a wonderful time growing, learning, and experiencing life as part of Troop 699 and Hillside Community Church. Through these years in scouts, I have been able to experience many things that most kids don’t get to do these days like camping, archery, shooting shotguns and rifles, kayaking, learning life skills like first aid, personal fitness, etc.  I have had leadership positions in my troop and was elected to the Order of the Arrow which is a National Honor Society in Boy Scouts.  I have been at Hillside since I was 1 year old.  I was baptized by Pastor Dave when I was 10.   I participated in Upward Bound Sports from age 4-14, Arts Academy, Children’s Ministry, Junior High and High School worship team and many camps over the years.

In Scouts, I am currently a Life Scout.  The next step in my Scout journey is Eagle Scout which is a great honor and takes years of hard work and determination.  In order to reach the rank of Eagle Scout, I have to plan a service project that will benefit my community.  Since I have been attending Hillside Community Church my whole life and feel like it is my home away from home, it was very important to me to be able to complete my project to benefit Hillside.  I met with Pastor Aaron and a few board members to discuss possible projects and we settled on my building a lattice patio covering for an outdoor seating area near the main office.  This will be great because the area is directly across from the Kathy Martin Memorial Garden which means that having a covering will allow the area to be used year round.  Currently there are couches and chairs and a table in the area, but it will be too hot in the summer months and exposed to the elements in the fall and winter without some sort of protective covering.

As part of my Eagle Project, I am required to raise all of the funds to cover the costs of my project through donations and by rule, my parents are not allowed to provide funds.  I am also required to complete all of the planning, do the actual building, and act as the leader on the project.  After consulting with a general contractor, it was estimated that my project will cost about $6,000.  My plan is to make the patio cover match a lattice covering in another area to provide consistency. All labor will be provided by myself, my fellow scouts, and family members.  This is why I am writing to you.  I would greatly appreciate it if you could donate any amount towards my project.  All donations must go through my Scout Troop.  Donations can be made via check payable to Troop 699 (please write my name in the note section) or you can donate online through this campaign.  In the event that extra funds are raised, they will be donated to Hillside for them to use as needed.

Thank you so much for the role that you have played in my life and for considering any support you can provide.

Gratefully yours,

Seth Marshall

P.S. You can mail checks to my home address but remember they must be payable to Troop 699.
