Help Us Launch the Duffy Boat Project – Empower Neurodivergent Lives!
Hello, my name is David Wetherelt, and I’m the co-founder of Like Minds Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting neurodivergent individuals, people like me who live with Autism, ADHD, and other neurodivergency. Crew Merchandise here
My journey has been anything but simple. For years, I struggled without knowing why I felt different, battled addiction, anxiety, and depression, and faced setbacks in both my personal and professional life. It wasn’t until my late 50s that I finally received a diagnosis of Autism and ADHD. That moment changed everything for me. I realized I wasn’t broken I was wired differently. And with the right support, I could not only heal but help others do the same.
That’s why I started Like Minds Alliance: to create a safe, compassionate community where neurodivergent people can thrive, connect, and find practical support for living in a world that often misunderstands us.
The Duffy Boat Miracle
A few months ago, something incredible happened. A generous supporter of our mission donated a 22-foot Duffy electric boat (that needs some care) to Like Minds. This wasn’t just any boat, it felt like a sign that our dreams were about to set sail.
We immediately envisioned how we could use the boat for our community:
Therapeutic boat rides for neurodivergent individuals and their families providing peaceful, sensory-friendly experiences on the water.
Peer support and coaching sessions aboard the boat offering a unique, calm setting for conversations and connection.
Small group workshops focused on mindfulness, stress relief, and building social skills.
Community-building events to bring neurodivergent individuals and allies together in joyful, inclusive ways.
We plan to name the boat HenneSea-Clara, in honor of a special girl with profound autism who reminds us why our mission matters every single day. Hennessey-Clara is the granddaughter of our generous boat donor.
Why We Need Your Help
While the boat was generously donated, there are significant costs to make this vision a reality:
• Repair, upgrades, and new equipment
• Slip fees and marina costs
• Maintenance
• Safety equipment
• Marketing and outreach for programs
• Insurance
• ADA accessibility upgrades
We’re launching this GoFundMe to raise $10,000 to cover these expenses and ensure the Duffy boat becomes a floating sanctuary for neurodivergent individuals in our community.
Our Mission at Like Minds
At Like Minds, we believe neurodivergent people deserve:
• Compassionate support rooted in lived experience
• Tools for thriving in work, relationships, and daily life
• A sense of belonging and purpose
One of our mottos is: “Like Minds, Strong Paths.” Together, we’re blazing new trails for neurodivergent individuals, supporting brain health, emotional wellness, and community connection.
