Attention! As many of you hopefully know, I have always tried to put God and others at the center of my life. As I balance school, health, up to 4 jobs, and my career, I’m always eager to prioritize service as well. This past semester, I joined the Los Angeles chapter of the Order of Malta Auxiliary. The Order of Malta is a Catholic lay organization founded with the sole intention of service to the poor and the sick. Through this organization, I’ve been able to serve my local community by preparing breakfast for guests at the St. Francis Center in DTLA and providing dinner to women at the Alexandria House in Koreatown. These opportunities have instilled in me a greater appreciation for all that I have been blessed with in my life, but they’ve also provided me with an an intense desire to do more. That’s why, I am inviting all of you to join me on my next service endeavour.
This summer, I will be embarking on a service trip to the Catholic Pilgrimage site of Lourdes, France, through a partnership with the USC Caruso Catholic Center and the Order of Malta. On this trip, I will be assisting the tens of thousands of malades (an ill or sick person) as they travel to the holy/healing baths of the Piscines.
Since I fully provide for myself financially (school, housing, food, health, etc.), this trip is not possible for me to pay for on my own. I know that I am incredibly blessed with such an amazing community at USC and beyond. Not only do I want to use this trip as an opportunity to enrich the lives of those I will be serving, but also the lives of the people who have supported me on my journey up to this point. Your financial support (of any amount) would be greatly appreciated. As I am on my pilgrimage to Lourdes, I will be praying for ALL OF YOU! I will also do my best to bring back any memorabilia (rosaries/Holy Water/etc.) you would like.
As I said earlier, any amount helps! I need the funds as soon as possible as I need to secure ticketing (everything in full by June 15th). At the time of Bernadette, the Grotto was a dirty, obscure, humid and cold place. There was a huge contrast between this dark, humid Grotto and the presence of the Virgin Mary, the “Immaculate Conception”. This reminds us of the Gospel: the encounter between the richness of God and the poverty of Man. Christ came to look for those who are lost. God comes to tell us that He loves us: This is essentially the “Message of Lourdes”…and God loves us just as we are.
