Hi Everyone. This is Owen & Wyatt. They are autistic 11-year-old twins. They have severe social anxiety, making it extremely difficult to interact with people other than us, their parents. The boys have been through many years of occupational and speech therapy to address their needs in this area. Unfortunately, neither one of these interventions has helped them be able to socialize like most little boys, and their anxiety has gotten worse over the last several years.
Recently, in our efforts to try to help our children, it was recommended that a service dog would be an excellent companion to help them be more at ease in public and social situations. Additionally, due to their condition, they aren't always able to detect possibly dangerous situations (crossing the street, parking lots, general awareness of their surroundings), and a service dog would help them navigate through these.
You may know that purchasing and training a service dog is quite expensive. We live on a single-income teacher salary and are unable to bear the total cost of a service dog for our boys. We appreciate any financial help you can extend to our family to help our boys successfully function in their everyday lives.
