Dear friends and neighbors,

Ms. Y, her two children (a Kindergartner and a fifth grader at Bancroft Elementary), and Mr. N are a Mt. Pleasant family. Ms. Y and Mr. N are expecting a baby in less than two months, but Mr. N, who was also the sole breadwinner for the family, was recently detained and deported by ICE. Ms. Y and her children urgently need help to meet their basic needs, obtain legal support, and reunite with Mr. N.

Here are some details:

One month ago, at the end of August, Mr. N went to a grocery store in NW DC with his brother-in-law (Ms. Y’s brother). After paying for their groceries, they returned to their car, and started to drive out of the parking lot when one car stopped in front of them, and another blocked them in from behind. Five agents surrounded the car and asked the two men to get out. Mr. N and his brother-in-law were taken into ICE custody. Their car, with groceries for their family, was left by the side of the road. They were permitted a phone call and shared their situation with Ms. Y.

Ms. Y’s brother was sent to a detention facility in Chantilly, VA and deported back to El Salvador after 8 days. Mr. N was sent to a detention center in Louisiana, where he was held until his deportation to Honduras on September 23.

Meanwhile, here in DC, Ms. Y is trying to take care of her kids while 7 months pregnant, without income, and without her partner.

This family is in an extraordinarily difficult chapter of their lives, and they need our support. Their ultimate goal is to be reunited as a family in El Salvador - and we will be asking for your help to make that happen in the future. But right now, we need to help Ms. Y just get through the next three months - to survive, to provide for and protect her kids, and to safely and warmly welcome their new baby. Funds raised in this appeal will be used to cover her rent here in DC for the next 3 months, her phone bill, legal fees for establishing Mr. N’s paternity while unable to attend the birth of his child, and other basic needs.

La Sra. Y, sus dos hijas (una niña de kínder y una niña de quinto grado en la escuela primaria Bancroft) y el Sr. N pertenecen a una familia de Mt. Pleasant. La Sra. Y y el Sr. N. esperan un bebé en menos de dos meses, pero el Sr. N, quien también era el único sostén de la familia, fue detenido y deportado recientemente por ICE. La Sra. Y y sus hijos necesitan ayuda urgente para cubrir sus necesidades básicas, obtener asistencia legal y reunirse con el Sr. N.

A continuación, algunos detalles:

Hace un mes, a finales de agosto, el Sr. N fue a una tienda de comestibles en el noroeste de Washington D. C. con su cuñado (hermano de la Sra. Y). Después de pagar la compra, regresaron a su auto y comenzaron a salir del estacionamiento cuando un auto se detuvo frente a ellos y otro les bloqueó el paso por detrás. Cinco agentes rodearon el auto y les pidieron a los dos hombres que salieran. El Sr. N y su cuñado fueron puestos bajo custodia de ICE. Su auto, con víveres para su familia, quedó abandonado a un lado de la carretera. Se les permitió hacer una llamada telefónica y contaron su situación a la Sra. Y.

El hermano de la Sra. Y fue enviado a un centro de detención en Chantilly, Virginia, y deportado a El Salvador después de 8 días. El Sr. N fue enviado a un centro de detención en Luisiana, donde permaneció retenido hasta su deportación a Honduras el 23 de septiembre.

Mientras tanto, aquí en Washington D. C., la Sra. Y intenta cuidar de sus hijos durante su séptimo mes de embarazo, sin ingresos y sin su pareja.

Esta familia atraviesa un momento extremadamente difícil en sus vidas y necesita nuestro apoyo. Su objetivo final es reunirse como familia en El Salvador, y les pediremos su ayuda para que esto suceda en el futuro. Pero ahora mismo, necesitamos ayudar a la Sra. Y a superar los próximos tres meses: a sobrevivir, a mantener y proteger a sus hijos, y a dar la bienvenida a su nuevo bebé de forma segura y cálida. Los fondos recaudados en esta campaña se utilizarán para cubrir su alquiler aquí en Washington D. C. durante los próximos tres meses, su factura telefónica, los honorarios legales para establecer la paternidad del Sr. N mientras no pueda asistir al nacimiento de su hijo, y otras necesidades básicas.
