Sensory Space for Sammy
We are reaching out to you with a heartfelt request to support our son, Sammy, who has a diagnosis of Coffin Siris Syndrome, which is a rare genetic disorder and Autistic Spectrum Disorder, this presents him with numerous intellectual and physical challenges that he faces daily.
Sammy is 4 and has a twin sister, Mollie, and while she thrived during the early years, it was clear that Sammy was facing developmental delays. He has never spoken and we do not know if he ever will.
Sammy has no concept of danger and due to his sensory seeking behaviours, this presents with lots of challenges, such as putting items in to his mouth, licking, chewing and tapping items continually throughout his day.
As Sammy has got older his needs have become more profound and Sammy struggles to find space and a calm environment to self regulate and fulfill his sensory needs. Our goal is to provide Sammy with his own space so that he can explore his environment safely and meet his sensory needs, unfortunately it is not safe for Sammy to be alone in his bedroom, unless in his safety bed and the lounge is no longer a safe environment either as Sammy continually puts items in his mouth and licks surfaces that could cause danger, Sammy also struggles to share the space with his family which leads to him becoming distressed.
With your generous donation we would like to create a safe sensory space attached to the house such as a conservatory or add on room, so that Sammy can have a more fulfilled life and meet his sensory needs.
We thank-you for your time reading about Sammy.
