Sensory and Vision Therapy for Miles

Hello precious friends and family! I know many of you have been keeping up with our family since Miles ran away from home on June 2nd of this year. That event forever changed our family and opened our eyes to searching out every possible avenue that might help Miles with so many of the physical and emotional handicaps he daily struggles with. In God’s kindness, He provided a wonderful counselor to help him walk through all the parts of his story and an introduction to Snider Therapy Center in Birmingham, Alabama. After extensive testing this summer, we learned that Miles’ visual and auditory senses are not working as a team as they should which causes a great deal of stress on the brain and to compensate, the brain shuts down many of his senses during times of stress, overwhelm or pain. He also has muscles behind his eyes that aren’t functioning properly which causes frequent blurred vision, headaches and exhaustion. The great news is that it’s all correctible and after therapy, Miles’ daily processing and reasoning should be on track for his age and gender. The first part of the therapy is called Sensory Learning therapy and Miles will have to spend 12 consecutive days in Birmingham with two daily sessions at the clinic during those twelve days. After that, he’ll have 18 days at home with a therapy light and then approximately seven months of vision therapy at the Columbus branch of the clinic. The not fun news is the cost. His total program cost is $12,850, of which we have already raised $6500. As I was praying for this need this morning, God reminded me that there may be many willing to help but they can’t give if they don’t know of our need. So many of you have faithfully prayed for and supported our family these last three months, checking in on Miles weekly to see how he’s doing. That support has blessed and encouraged us through a very hard summer. If God moves you to donate to his therapy, we would be so greatly appreciative and be even more humbled by such kindness.
