Imagine reaching your 70s, or 80s, living in a small mobile home that you can afford in which to spend the rest of your remaining years. Then you find a letter from the new owners in your mailbox telling you they’ve decided to close the park and forcing you out, while paying you nowhere close to the fair market value for your home. You quickly realize that you are left unable to find other housing options in this soaring housing market. Imagine your elderly parents or your grandparents in this situation, suddenly becoming homeless.

This is what is happening to 300+ low-income senior residents at Imperial Avalon Mobile Estates mobile home park, a mobile home community located in Carson, California’s in the heart of California's South Bay. Early in 2019, a multi-billion-dollar development corporation, bought the mobile home park. In August of that year, it was announced that the park would be closing. The compensation offered to the residents is a fraction of the resources necessary to relocate and far less than the fair market value of their mobile homes. As a result, low-income seniors will soon be kicked out of their homes and become refugees in their own community.

The closure has stolen the seniors' retirements, decimated them financially, and has left them abandoned to imminent homelessness.

There are a group of seniors that have elected to shine a bright light on the forced relocations, and the shocking and heartless behavior behind the process. For four years, the increased stress and anxiety has impacted our physical and mental wellbeing. Despite these hardships, we will continue to demand justice for ourselves and break the cycle of indifference towards low-income seniors and we ask for your help.
