Many of us have had the privilege of sharing a classroom with her, experiencing her wisdom, stern lectures and loving care firsthand. Through health challenges and personal struggles, Ms. Hankins has never wavered in her commitment to showing up for our kids, offering them the love and guidance that only an experienced, brilliant, tough, and caring grandmother can provide. As a widow raising her son and goddaughter on a modest classroom aide’s salary, Ms. Hankins has never had the opportunity to afford a trip to Hawaii—a destination she has long dreamed of visiting.
