The San José State University chapter of oSTEM (Out in STEM) is hoping to go to the national oSTEM conference this year!
Our chapter is just barely one year old, and last year we were excited and able to send three students to attend the conference (photo above)-- it was such a wonderful experience for all of us to connect with other queer folks in STEM, and especially as a new chapter, to build capacity and learn from other student leaders.
In this first year, our chapter has grown to nearly double its size, and we have *twelve* students who want to attend this year's conference, in Baltimore, MD. This would be a great chance for our club to build community and keep building momentum, but we need external support to be able to send a large group of students.
Our club still has the same base budget as last year, and many of the centers on campus who we normally ask for support have faced budget cuts and are unable to help, coinciding with federal cuts to "DEI" and general budget cuts to SJSU for the last few years.
If you would be willing to contribute to our club attending the conference, we are very grateful, and every bit helps!
