Hi everyone,

My name is Genesis Delgado, and I’m a Deaf graduate student at Gallaudet University studying International Development. I’ve always been drawn to work that connects people, communities, and the world around them. Through my studies, I’ve realized that protecting the environment isn’t separate from helping people — it’s the same work. Healthy ecosystems mean stronger communities, more opportunities, and a future where people and nature can thrive together. That understanding has given me a clear purpose: to dedicate my life to work that supports both the planet and the people who depend on it.

This coming Spring 2026, I’ll have the incredible opportunity to intern with Sharklab-Malta, an organization focused on marine conservation and education. I’ll help with projects that protect marine life, study ocean ecosystems, and promote sustainable practices. For me, this isn’t just an internship — it’s the chance to take what I care about most and turn it into action that matters.

But this experience also carries a deeper, personal meaning. As a Deaf woman, I know what it feels like to be left out of global conversations — especially in areas like environmental work. While in Malta, I want to connect with the local Deaf community and help build a bridge between them and Sharklab-Malta. I want to show that Deaf people belong in these spaces — that our perspectives, ideas, and voices matter — and that we can lead, teach, and make real change.

While my Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program will help cover part of my tuition, housing, and meals — and Gallaudet University may support my flight — I still need to raise funds for:
