3 years and 9 months ago Asher was born He was just 9 days old when he developed sepsis and as a result had a brain stem bleed which left him needing to be ventilated via a tracheostomy tube. He spent his first 2 years in Great Ormond Street with his parents by his side along with Asher's sister Erin. Their lives turned upside down, hopes dashed. Both parents were also working and trying to make life as normal as possible. Asher defied many medical text books and was finally discharged from GOSH.
Davi & Helen learned how to care for all of Asher's medical needs (both are teachers not medical). They devoted themselves to ensure Asher had the best life he could, his profound disability never stopped them. They made sure Asher experienced all that he safely could, snow, Santa's grotto, taste of ice cream, chocolate! paddling pools, even CBBs prom performance. The moment Asher awoke their day started, he needed constant care, it wasn't safe to leave him unattended. They were experts at trachy care, managing emergencies resuscitating him and so much more as they looked after his sister and held down jobs. What made all this possible was their utter love and devotion for their beautiful boy who touched the hearts of many with his huge smile that lit a room. Such love such sacrificial love. No 'sleep in's' no holidays no nights out. The constant vigilance day and even 'on call' at night. The increased bills that come with caring for a disabled person. Tiredness put to one side as they loved and cared for their precious son, little Erin was just under 2 when Asher became ill and has loved him dearly each day.
A month ago sadly Asher died suddenly unexpectedly. He has left an enormous Asher sized hole in David, Helen, Erin's and Amirah's hearts. The funeral is this week.
We want to raise money to send them on a much needed holiday together as a family. This will be their first holiday in well over 3 1/2 years. 3 1/2 years lived in a place of constant medical alertness,
