Who are we and who is Keystone Progress Coatesville?
We're a fierce community organization that has spent the past year working hard to build power in our community so we can win transformative change in Education, Incarceration, Jobs, and Housing.
We're for the community, and of the community- because we know that real change that benefits us can only happen when poor and working families come together and build a movement that's powerful enough to make that change!
We are 3 local leaders- Nydea, Terry, and Elgin- who have taken on lead roles in building our organization and we're ready to make a huge investment in our leadership by attending the People's Action Weeklong Transformative Leadership Training. We want to build a movement in our community, and we're asking you for your support!
What is the training?
It's an intensive training happening July 28-August 3rd in the Chicago area led by People's Action, a national network of community organizations. Community leaders and staff organizers from across the country will be coming together to learn the ins and outs of building power in our neighborhoods because we're set on building a movement of poor and working class families with a vision for a world that works for all of us.
We live in a society that keeps us powerless and tells us our oppression is always our own fault. The training is designed to push against these narratives by fostering transformative growth among the trainees, so we can move through the obstacles that hold us back from truly understanding our capacity for leadership.
How will this benefit our leaders and Coatesville?
This training is life changing! It's a space for deep investment that will challenge us to grow into the fullest versions of ourselves so we can more fully fight for our liberation. We hope to come home with clarity around our stake in organizing other poor and working families across Coatesville so we can finally have power over our own lives. We want to carry a renewed sense of confidence and trust in ourselves and others so we're ready to take the risks necessary for true leadership that will empower our community.
This training is key to setting a foundation for our organizing work so we can came together do things like abolish cash bail, ensure a fair revitalization process that employs local folks and keeps us in our homes, and make sure that all students and teachers get the education system that they deserve. We are fighting for nothing less than a Coatesville and Chester County where people of all colors, genders, and backgrounds can thrive, not just hang on and survive. Investing in us to get us to this training is an investment in a better future.
What is the money being used for?
The money will be used to cover room and board which comes $1000 each, and to cover missed pay (at minimum wage rate) for one of us who would be missing work without paid vacation. We're going to drive to cut down costs, though we still need to cover a van rental and gas to get there.
