In London, Ontario, we are witnessing a major backlash against Harm Reduction practices. Criminalization and policing are on the rise. More and more premature and preventable deaths are occurring among people who have difficulty accessing their medication by the established means. Now, more than ever, it is important that we strengthen our connections with accomplices and allies, and find more ways to engage in the evidence-based, life-affirming work of harm reduction.
It is especially important that frontline workers have the ability to develop their praxis in this regard. Yet, while local bosses are given tens of thousands of dollars to fly to various conferences, stay in various hotels, eat at various restaurants, attend various workshops, and build their professional networks, frontline workers are very rarely given the opportunity to learn, grow, and develop in this way.
Therefore, we are seeking to raise funds to send Carrie, a phenomenal frontline worker from London, to the 28th Harm Reduction International Conference in Colombia in April, 2025. Carrie's deep cares for others and the depth of experience and wisdom she brings to her work from her own lived experience is outstanding. She goes well above and beyond in what she does both inside and outside of the workplace. Funding Carrie to attend this conference, and then bring back and share what she learns with the rest of us is an opportunity to help us all do better. Let's get Carrie to Colombia! We'll all be better for it. #WeCareForUs
