Send Benjamin to Summer Camp

On February 17th, 2019, our son Benjamin was admitted to hospital and diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. His body depends on regular insulin injections 4 times a day and his blood must be monitored regularly.
Benjamin also experiences sensory processing difficulties. He can sometimes be oversensitive to things in his environment such as crowds, loud noise, etc. He frequently throws tantrums and has meltdowns that makes functioning at school and home difficult. His school has worked very hard to help him learn to self-regulate but with the new diagnosis, more work needs to happen.
Pathstone Mental Health has offered a spot in one of their summer camps in Welland to Benjamin that will hopefully offer additional opportunities to learn positive self-regulation and communication skills that will help him in school next year. The camp will also only include 8 children which means he will have increased support available to him.
Today we were made aware that our private health coverage will not cover the cost of nurses/psws to go into the summer camp to administer his insulin. We were told by our juvenile diabetic team that they had no additional resources available to them. LHIN (formerly CCAC) provides nursing care to Benjamin at school but will not provide service in daycare or summer camp settings. Both my husband and I work full time in Port Colborne and are unable to travel to the camp and administer the insulin ourselves. We have been quoted cost of private nursing care services ranging from $1280.00-$2745.00 for the 8 weeks of summer camp (not including the cost of the summer camp itself).
Our family has been through a lot in the last few months, especially Benjamin. I very much want this opportunity for him as I cannot imagine what he must be feeling and how confusing the last few months have probably been. I appreciate everyone's support. It means the world to me.
