Every summer, Code in the Schools employs dozens of Baltimore youth to sharpen their tech skills through project work on teams with industry pros. Those more experienced intern with local tech companies. In 2022, over 100 young people participated in CodeWorks, run in partnership with Baltimore City’s Youthworks Summer Jobs program. Stahr had this to say about his experience as a Junior Developer on the Game Development team:
“It has been a really amazing journey....I really enjoyed myself and the experience. Even though some days I was pretty tired I still managed to complete my task for the day. It was really interesting being the one behind the scenes in making a game. I play games all the time but to be a part of a team where we created our own game was definitely a changer for me. I really loved the experience. I also had really good experiences with my manager [and] with my team--really smooth, hard workers who communicated when needed. Overall this has been a really good experience for me.”
By contributing to our year-end campaign, you can help us extend this and other programs to more youth. Year-round we empower Baltimore youth to thrive by expanding access to quality computer science education and building pathways from schools to jobs and higher education. And by focusing on those who have been historically excluded, we work to eliminate structural barriers and inequities in education and industry.
