Seismometers for Gyumri, Armenia
Donation protected
Hello everyone as some of you know I have been living and volunteering in Gyumri, Armenia for the past few months at the Institute of Geophysics and Engineering Seismology after A. Nazarov.
In 1988 Gyumri was greatly affected by the 6.8 M Spitak earthquake which killed about 25,000 people. With those who survived the earthquake, their stories still linger and their lives have been disturbed forever by the devastating event.
The Geophysics Institute has several seismometers but they are all antiquated and lack digital/bluetooth technologies that would greatly enhance their capabilities. I have looked into gifting the institute two Raspberry Shake seismometers (one 1 dimensional seismometer and one 2 dimensional seismometer).
This is a start to introducing new technologies to the Caucasus regional scientific institutes. I appreciate any donation to help me with this endeavor. It has been extremely rewarding exchanging knowledge with other fellow Armenian scientists at the Institute.
