Last week, #ShutDownSTEM , #ShutDownAcademia, and #Strike4BlackLives reminded STEM educators and researchers of the importance in taking daily action to fight white supremacy and anti-Black violence in the United States.
Today, the Sloan Equity and Inclusion in STEM Introductory Courses (SEISMIC) collaboration is raising funds for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Both individual and group actions are needed to bring about the structural changes we need in society—and in our STEM and higher education communities, in particular. Coming together around efforts that influence policy changes can create more lasting change and bring us closer to an equitable society. The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund is part of those efforts to make our communities better and transform our institutions and fields.
We hope members of SEISMIC institutions will join us in supporting the important work of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund—while also continuing to support antiracism in their local contexts, classrooms, institutions, and disciplines. Please also consider donating to your local organizations supporting Black Lives Matter. Every dollar makes an impact!

The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF) is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, the NAACP LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans.
