See You Next Tuesday, Cancer - Swims

First of all thank you for tuning in and giving us your time to explain what this fundraising adventure is all about…

Oh What A Year - This year has been such a ride, there has been so many highs, but unfortunately there has been lots of lows and most of them have all related to the horrible disease that is "cancer"! And if you are reading this then you can probably relate to what I've said .

Matt S:
Yes it's a phase of my life that just got tough! The range of emotions that I have felt because of this "horrorbag" is far too many and I hate that "it" evokes this in me, when I'm not the one encountering it. My very good friend his supporting his Mum through her cancer, my sister-in-law is supporting her Mum through cancer, and Jay another real good friend’s dad (another good friend) is now battling cancer and a lot of you will know my good friend Joe Macmillan passed (You are so missed Joe ❤️). The news that truly shook this year for me, was my Mum getting her own diagnosis, which has pushed me so hard emotionally, I am sad a lot! But I am angry more!! So what better way to channel these emotions than challenging myself and focusing all this emotion for the good of other people?!

Jay W:
In a year that has been so full of fulfilment and energy, achievements and great effort, there hasn’t half been some gut wrenching lows. A close friend lost their battle with cancer at a very young age, unjust and harrowingly unfair. Then my close friend Joe lost his battle with the same cancer, after a strong a brave fight that he gave his all. Then Matt shared the cruel news that his Mum also was now battling this unmerciful disease. And finally my Dad, Neil, was told he too would now begin a fight for his health following a diagnosis of cancer. I am determined to put aside my discomfort and finish this year positively and have it within my own hands.

The challenge - During the 31 days in the month of December we will be spending enough time swimming and/or dipping and getting bone chillingly cold, the waters have chilled to below 8°C! We will be staying in the water for as many minutes as it is cold - 5 degrees = 5 minutes.
And to add to the challenge we are going to try and get many friends to join me and/or share their experience. We will document water temp each day and Matt will publish a little write up each day whether he swam or dipped, how long for, how it felt and any other special bits from the day.
We will set up a group for sharing your experiences, so please let us know if you'd like to join.

Who We’re Raising Funds For - The amazing people Macmillan Cancer Support as they have supported so many of the people mentioned and for that I am truly grateful, they give so much and that needs funds.

Please support us and Macmillan Cancer Support: At Macmillan, we give people with cancer everything we've got. If you're diagnosed, your worries are our worries. We will move mountains to help you live life as fully as you can.
And we don't stop there. We're going all out to find even better ways to help people with cancer, helping to bring forward the day when everyone gets life-transforming support from day one.
We're doing whatever it takes. But without your help we can't support everyone who needs us.
