The Washington Texas Historical Cemetery Association is a volunteer-led organization dedicated to restoring and preserving the Washington Texas Historical Cemetery in Washington, Texas.

Established in 2023, the association's mission is to ensure that the rich history and heritage of this cemetery is preserved for future generations. The association is committed to providing high-quality care and maintenance to the cemetery grounds and the memorials of those buried here.

The Washington Texas Historical Cemetery traces its roots to June 12, 1836, with the burial of Spencer Morris, Sr. It is the final resting place of soldiers who fought in the Texas Revolution and individuals who were instrumental to the development of our state. As generations passed and families moved away, the cemetery was abandoned and fell into disrepair. Concerned community members feared that continued neglect would result in permanent loss of all evidence of one of the most significant cemeteries in Texas history.

Since acquiring conservatorship of the cemetery, the Washington Texas Historical Cemetery Association has overseen many restoration projects, including clearing an area for a road into the cemetery, conducting a Ground Penetrating Radar survey revealing over 100 unmarked graves, clearing brush, and cleaning and repairing many of the headstones.

The cemetery has been described by visitors as a priceless treasure and a testament of what can be accomplished when dedicated volunteers work together for a common cause.
