I am running this campaign on behalf of a friend, who wishes to remain anonymous for legal and personal safety reasons. They have written the below statement to explain why these funds are needed. These funds are urgently needed to prevent further abuse of a minor and provide a safe home environment.
I am a transmasc person with a history of mental health challenges. My 15 year old son is autistic with some significant but not impossible behavioral problems. I have joint custody but he lives with his father─ who recently contacted me threatening to put our son in a group home because he is having a new baby. I do not believe our son is a danger to the baby as his father does, nor do I think the group home is best for him. My son says he would prefer to live at home so he has a better chance of succeeding socially at school, and I support this wholeheartedly. When we were married, my son’s father abused me financially, emotionally, and sexually. In 2018 my son accused his father of hitting him, but when I tried to contact the school and his therapist about this, I was ignored: one of many times I have been discriminated against since my transition, and due to my mental health history. His father admits to pinning him down during meltdowns, which I adamantly disagree with as a method for handling those; I have begged him to stop but he will not. To prevent my son from being put in a group home I need to have a bigger place, which I cannot afford where I am living now, but I can afford if I move away from the coast. This go fund me is for travel and moving expenses so I can get both of us to a safe place where his autism can be treated with gentleness instead of punishment and he can have another chance to learn to function before he reaches adulthood. I am remaining anonymous in order to protect the identity of my son, who is a minor.
I have created this budget to detail how the funds will be used:
Travel:
$2,000 car downpayment
$2,153 UHaul
$350 hotels for the road
$225 food for road
$100 AAA membership, for safety
$800 gas, estimate
$375 first months car payment
Moving/Establishing Home:
$5400 approximate amount needed for a deposit on a rental home
$2100 basic furnishings that we can’t take with us such as beds, kitchen table, etc $500 food for first month
$6000 for setting up home care for autistic child, cost for three months
