Securing a Community Center

ArkLight was conceived in 2020 to meet the need for a place to gather and discuss the developing economic, political, social, and spiritual crises developing in the Hudson River Valley and across our nation. ArkLight hosted and continues to host workshops and public events related to Health, Education, Economics, Food Security, Spirituality, and Culture through Art, Movement, and Music.

ArkLight has become a vessel that provides support for essential change in the economic, political, social, and spiritual structure direction of our community and culture. We have held Future Fulfilled visioning events at ArkLight, in open town hall format, where we discussed and considered what is important to us and how we can consider preserving, creating or building a stronger community. We have held "activity weeks/playgroups" during the summer for ages 6-13; live music and dance evenings; yoga and other movement classes & workshops; cooking classes; art classes; African dancing. We envision a community center that continues to offer these enriching experiences for all ages and provides long term and temporary housing at an affordable price, in addition to short term stays for enriching cultural and health & wellness excursions.

In preparation for the transition from private residence to cultural & retreat center, we created an LLC and are now securing non-profit status. In order to complete the purchase of the land and structure, finish the structure, purchase adjoining land, and provide immediate program funding we are seeking $1.95 million dollars. 

However, we are breaking out this overall goal by year:

Year One (August 2021-2022), raise $550,000:  Finish the entrance and main hall floors; finish the exterior, expand parking, complete additional basement level apartment & healing rooms; create provisional shelters to host volunteers and paying guests; start the third floor "Temple"; provide the first down payment on the Arklight structure & land by the Arklight Community; legal fees to transfer land and structure to The New Ark Lighthouse LLC.
