Spirited Play Labs is growing, and we need our community's help!
SPL officially opened in January of 2022. SPL is an inclusive community play center supporting neurodivergent, delayed, disabled, or neurotypical children and their families. As a membership-based space, SPL currently serves over 300 families, 70% of which are neurodivergent or disabled.
Each week, members join us in open play. They come from all over the Bay Area, as close as Dublin, and as far as Sacramento. We have seen these members grow and change as time goes on. We have seen the connections that are made among families and the passing of impactful resources between one another. We have put on countless member events, received holiday gifts from grateful families, and learned from you as we adapted our offerings and space every few months to meet the needs of our community!
What we love about membership is the opportunity to watch children grow, and to watch parents become more comfortable and confident in parenting their children. We have walked families through the assessment and diagnosis processes, initial IEP experiences, finding a good fitting preschool/daycare, seeking out good private therapy services, and more. We also have supported families as they've grown from 1 child to 2; often families will bring their infants along with their older children! The closeness and care we feel from this is unmatched.
As of June 2023, 170 families are receiving memberships through the Regional Center of the East Bay. These families come from Pittsburgh, Oakland, Fremont, Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Castro Valley, Hayward, Union City, and Dublin. These families have children with disabilities who are over the age of 3, and need social recreation opportunities for their children to have fun, engage socially, and relax!
We have had the same amazing staff members since day one. Mikaela, Hanna, Ryan, Julia, Reem, Erin, Stephanie, Simone, Karen, Season, and Joselyn have watched your children grow and change from week to week. They have supported you during hard times and celebrated your successes. They love seeing you all each week! Many of our staff are currently transitioning into special education programs such as speech therapy and occupational therapy because of the impact that SPL has made on their lives.
After 1.5 years in San Ramon, we are ready to expand. Spirited Play Labs is a much-needed resource to the special needs community (and the general community at large!).
We are ready to embark on our second location and have chosen Orinda as that place! We chose this location because it is closer to many families who travel from long distances to be with us. It's also a large space that allows us to provide membership-based open play, a future Early Intervention toddler program, a dedicated infant space, and more. Our plan is to provide the same quality of care and love that San Ramon currently offers!
We've found an incredible space, and we could use your help. These funds will help secure the location we have our eyes on. Once that's done, we will be reaching out for potential investors to help us raise additional funds for equipment/toys and construction of the space.
