Yemeni American Community Center of NY

Following the signing of the Muslim Ban Executive Order, the Yemeni American community in NYC shut down 1,000 bodegas and ascended onto Brooklyn Borough Hall for a rally of 6,000 strong that made international headlines.

With a newfound awakening of our community on the horizon, the Yemeni American Merchants Association (YAMA) was established to help Yemeni merchants and their families integrate into American society across NYC and build bridges of understanding between the government and local communities.

YAMA rose to the occasion to aid neighbors of our small business owners during the pandemic with weekly food giveaways and PPE supplies in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx.

To expand this work, YAMA has found a home to provide full-fledged social services for all those in need in the Bronx. As a member of our community, you know how important it is to have a safe and welcoming place where everyone can come together to learn, grow, and connect. That’s why we’re reaching out to you today to ask for your support in securing the purchase of a building that will serve as the Yemeni American Community Center of NY.

With your help, we will be able to provide ESL classes, citizenship classes, college readiness, workforce development, afterschool programming, a food pantry, a place to pray for local Muslim neighbors, and a weekend school to anyone in need of assistance.

Our goal is to secure the purchase of the building and to provide the necessary funds for its renovation and operation. Any contribution, big or small, will help us reach our goal and make a difference in the lives of those in our community.
