Hi, I’m Lauren — a mom and former educator. I’m creating this fund for my former fourth-grade student, Amia (“Meme”) Scott, who recently became a new mom and is now facing unexpected financial hardship.
I’ve known Amia since she was nine years old. Even back then, she stood out for her kindness, sensitivity, and generosity. As an adult, she’s continued to show that same heart and determination — working hard to build a better life for herself and now, her daughter.
Amia works full-time at a daycare center, but the job doesn’t provide paid maternity leave. Throughout her pregnancy, she continued working as much as she could, even as her hours were reduced. Her plan was to keep working through November to pay down overdue rent and get caught up before her baby arrived.
But life had other plans. On November 8, Amia delivered her daughter, Amiri, three weeks early via emergency C-section. Just two days before giving birth, she received an eviction notice for being behind on her November rent. With her early delivery and recovery from surgery, she’s now unable to work and facing the possibility of losing her home.
Amia has been making payments whenever possible, but she’s still behind on part of November’s rent and will need help covering December and January while she heals and adjusts to life with a newborn.
Our community — and The Church of the Resurrection — have come together to help with baby essentials, but what Amia needs most right now is a safe and stable home for herself and baby Amiri.
Every dollar raised will go directly to her landlord to cover rent and prevent eviction.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in supporting this sweet young mom as she works to create a secure future for her daughter. ❤️
