Your friends and neighbors in Seat Pleasant, Maryland need your help. Some of our most vulnerable residents - including families with children and the elderly- can’t afford even their most basic necessities right now, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
That’s why our tight-knit community has partnered with Mastercard to provide fee-free, prepaid debit cards for people struggling with everyday essentials, such as food, healthcare, and utilities.
About The City of Seat Pleasant
* 16% of residents faced unemployment before coronavirus took hold of the region
* 21% of residents are senior citizens, the most at-risk group for COVID-19 complications
The city has been classified as:
* An Opportunity Zone where many residents, including families with children, live below the poverty line.
* A Health Enterprise Zone, which means that there is a lack of primary care available to residents
* A “food desert” which means that residents have limited access to affordable and nutritious food
Your entire donation (less GoFundMe transaction fees) will go directly toward Seat Pleasant families and households living at or below the poverty line. Prepaid debit cards - in the amount of $250 each - can help sustain their most basic necessities during this crisis.
This fundraising effort was kicked off with generous donations from a former resident, Wanda Durant, and Mastercard (which is waiving all fees on the debit cards).
