Seamus Leonard's Eagle Scout Project
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Seamus Leonard and I’m raising money for my Eagle Scout project. I have been in scouting for 10 years, 5 years in Cub Scouts and 5 years in Boy Scouts. Scouting has provided a place for me to make friends who I can enjoy outdoor activities with. Additionally, scouting has helped me mature, teaching me important lessons about what it means to be a good citizen and a good man. Getting my Eagle Scout is important to me because it is the culmination of all of those years, a final achievement to end my years in scouting. The journey wouldn’t feel complete without it.
In my junior year, I completed my school service hours for a local non-profit organization called MemoryLane Care Services. I volunteered for several weeks at the center and bonded with some of the participants. For my Eagle Scout project, I want to give back to this great organization. I plan to build two raised garden beds and a planting table for them. MemoryLane’s adult day center provides structured, person-centered, and therapeutic activities for adults experiencing cognitive impairment related to chronic conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias.
The garden beds and the planting table will allow their participants to go outside and enjoy the fun and satisfaction of gardening activities. Research has shown that gardening supports stimulation of the sense and provides a sense of purpose for individuals with cognitive disorders. The garden beds will hold either flowers or vegetables and will provide participants with the opportunity to garden, weed, glean vegetables, or simply enjoy watching the growth and production of the plants.
All funds raised will directly benefit MemoryLane’s Adult Day Center and will enhance the day to day lives of their participants and staff. To learn more about MemoryLane Care Services, please visit their website at: www.memorylanecareservices.org.
Thank you for all your support of my Eagle Scout project and for recognizing how important this is for me to complete.
