My friends from שדרות are 17 years old and have been deeply impacted by the war. They were forced to leave their homes after their community was attacked. Since then, they’ve lived in constant fear, never knowing when the next siren will go off, forcing them to rush to shelters for safety. I met these amazing girls through Kol Hanearim, where we created a camp for them during their first week after we arrived in order to build lifelong friendships. (Click here to what we did this summer with the kids !!!) From the moment we started talking, I knew they would be some of my closest friends—and they truly are. They’ve been through things that no one should ever have to experience, yet they’ve remained so strong, brave, and resilient.

That's why we're raising money for girls who've been impacted by the war from Sderot to come fly to us, to have a break from it all for a week. Once they get to New York, they want to share what they've been through over the past year and a half. We want to give them the chance to speak about their experiences and show others their strength and courage. Speaking about it will not only help them heal, but also give others a chance to connect with kids in Israel and inspire people to keep doing work with them.

But beyond sharing their stories, these girls just need a break from the constant stress and fear that has been part of their lives for so long. This trip is a chance for them to be normal teenagers again—to laugh, have fun, and forget about the sirens and uncertainty, even if it’s just for a little while. It’s an opportunity for them to find some peace, cool down, and experience life without the weight of war hanging over them.
