Empowering San Diego Homeless Youth

PROVIDING RESOURCES, HOUSING & JOBS FOR HOMELESS YOUTH IN SAN DIEGO

WHO WE ARE:
This GoFundMe campaign benefiting Urban Street Angels is the community service initiative spearheaded by SD6, a class of the Ascension Leadership Academy (ALA). We are a group of passionate individuals leading by example and focused on making a positive impact in our community. The vision for SD6 is to be a constant source of love, joy, and connection in the world.

Urban Street Angels is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2012 to address homelessness in San Diego, California. The organization currently operates with three primary areas of focus: (1) providing basic human services (nourishing meals, water bottles, hygiene supplies, clothing, footwear, etc.) each Friday evening for 50-75 homeless individuals in the Ocean Beach area, (2) providing overnight shelter each Tuesday night for 20-25 homeless youth in the North Park area and (3) providing transitional employment and supportive housing opportunities for the youth through their 8 West social enterprise start-up and housing program.

Urban Street Angels partners with the County of San Diego and provides critical support in the operation of two independent-living group homes as the housing part of 8 West. Currently, 15 transition-age youth participate in the 8 West program, but our goal is to employ and house over 100 individuals by 2020. Beyond our valued relationship with the County of San Diego, all support for the organization stems from generous donors who support our mission to end youth homelessness with a #HandUp.

OUR GOAL:
We are committed to a fast-paced restoration project for two homeless housing shelters which currently house 15 homeless young people (ages 16-25) in San Diego. Our property improvement project is to completed by June 18, 2017. (That's right, in under 2 weeks!) There will be a completion celebration at one of the facilities with the youth to support them as they gain work and life experience.

To accomplish our goals, we are raising at least $50,000 to purchase supplies and the following items for the youth:

--Create space for a meditation and/or vegetable garden with a possible fire pit
--Backyard fence
--Sliding back door
--Washer & dryer units
--Back awning
--Mattresses for single beds
--Storage space: i.e. Dresser drawers, etc.
--Fix damaged interior doors
--Bus passes (to get to-and-from work)
--Car/van donation
--Computers/Laptops

Why Go Fund Me?
Time is of the essence!
The facilities are in need of repair. The youth male home is a 4 bedroom house (approximately 2,500 sq. ft.). The youth female home is a 3 bedroom house (approximately 1,750 sq. ft.).

How you can help!
100% of the funds raised will go toward the upgrades and beautification of the transition housing shelters. Please support us in helping our at-risk youth by making a donation today. Thank you!
