Schrimshaw Family Relief

How many times have we heard of abuses of power and authority by employers, mentors, elected officials, against the young women and men they hold under their control? Pressure. Bullying. Sexual harrassment.  Intimidation. Destroying young lives...

One such young lady lost it all. A single mother who stood up to the constant threats and humiliation and lost her job and her income for the sake of covering for a predator...who found the courage to expose the darkness, in spite of the potential for backlash or embarrassment.

Several of us recognized the needs of this family of 4 after losing her employment, being denied unemployment, and delinquency in receiving child support, even being forced to move out of her community.  Though she requested nothing...some of us want to help out. Please consider blessing this family and meeting their needs with a donation, and please SHARE this campaign forward!

This is her story:

"I've had several people ask about my story regarding the Payne County Sheriff's office and my experience there. I've thought about if it should be shared or not. I've thought about the backlash it will certainly receive. I've thought about the knowledge it will bring. I feel that it should be told, as painful and traumatic as it is. People deserve to know EXACTLY how things are done behind closed doors.
I worked at the Payne County Sheriff’s Office as a 911 Dispatcher from 2015 - 2019. Throughout that time, I was harassed in every way you could imagine, including sexually. When some of the harassment finally came to light, it put a target on my back that never went away. In fact, I found myself pregnant, with twins, as a result.

The current Sheriff (Undersheriff at the time), among other supervisors and administrators, knew what was going on and did nothing about it. It was even on video, but nothing was done. I felt an enormous amount of pressure; I didn't know what to do, or how to handle it. There was no one for me to go too, and as time went on, it just became a deeper snake pit. I also was not the only victim that had come forward, and when another did come forward, the Undersheriff betrayed that victim’s trust by telling her story to other unnecessary agencies, offices, and personnel.

As Sheriff, he now STILL continues to allow a predator to walk his halls, knowing that I was not the first or only one, and has done nothing about it. It went as far as to one of the upper commanding officers (the husband of my direct supervisor) "showing up" at one of the twin's pediatricians appointment, waiting for me near my vehicle, in what I feel was an attempt to put pressure on me into keeping my mouth shut. The person who is now in charge of the department allowed someone to harass his employees, the people he calls his "family," to the point of mental breakdowns and severe trauma, that eventually resulted in my giving birth. He then threatened the jobs of several of my co-workers, those who dare call themselves my friend, in an attempt to cover it up. An email was even sent out to that effect.

I was due to come back from Maternity leave in mid-September of 2019. My direct supervisor,  scheduled me on the overnight shift, knowing that I was alone with two preemie newborns, that had spent time in NICU for breathing difficulties, knowing that I was a single mom that had no help from their father, knowing that I was breastfeeding, knowing that I had no other options, and no one to be with them at night. I expressed to them, begged them even to move me to any of the other two available shifts. I couldn't afford to lose my job; it was the only income I had. They refused.

I even met with the Sheriff and HR personnel, in an attempt to try and come to an agreement on the scheduling. During that meeting, the Sheriff told me that I was an excellent Dispatcher, but then got up and walked out of the meeting once I asked why I was being discriminated against by him and my Supervisor, since everyone else's scheduling conflicts were accommodated. He told me that he had “gone out of his way” to help me by “giving me maternity/sick leave” and that “my kids had nothing to do with the Sheriff’s office.”

MY KIDS ARE A PRODUCT OF THE PAYNE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE!!!

He had NOTHING to do with my maternity leave, except to contact the county's attorney when it came to light they were breaking Federal law regarding insurance coverage through FMLA.

He then fired me, his 3rd in seniority Dispatcher, THROUGH AN EMAIL.

I filed for unemployment, and a hearing was scheduled for December of 2019. During the hearing, in front of a witness, the current Sheriff LIED UNDER OATH to the unemployment hearing officer - TWICE. He is a snake, a wolf in sheep's clothing, who will do anything to save his own skin. He was, and still is, terrified to stand up to the predator that still walks his halls, but he expected myself and other victims to do just that.

This man FAILED to protect me as Undersheriff, and as Sheriff. He failed to protect his other employees ("his family" as he calls them) and will continue to fail in that respect. He should NEVER be allowed to be in a position of authority at ANY agency, and should absolutely not be allowed to have any authority in Payne County. The current administration’s entire supervisors and commanding officers are just as toxic, and they are all predators in their own ways.

Ultimately, I have lost everything within the past two years, but have gained my beautiful babies. I was fired because of who the father of my twins is, a person that abused his authority to get what he wanted, with absolutely no repercussions. A person who got to run away. He answered to no one, and there was nothing anyone would do. Everyone is still terrified of that man.

I was fired because I stood up for myself and refused to go away. I was fired for making Payne County aware of what had happened. I was fired for something I had no control over. That kind of power should only be given to the most honest and respectable person, of which the current Sheriff is neither. Behind closed doors, he loudly yells at his employees, will turn anything you say to him in confidence or otherwise against you, discriminates, will go out of his way to make your work environment not only hostile, but painful, and will feed you to the lions to save his own back.

This is a very painful subject for me to speak about. My kids and I have lost everything already. Financially, I've lost everything; I've had to move and sell everything I can, just to make it. But I feel that it’s important for the citizens of Payne County, the citizens that I worked extremely hard for, for almost 5 years, to know what’s really happening under the current administration."
