Scotts Superheros Appeal

Story

Scott is a bubbly bright almost 13 year old with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy who now urgently needs your help!What is Duchenne muscular dystrophy? Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. It is one of nine types of muscular dystrophy. DMD is caused by an absence of dystrophin, a protein that helps keep muscle cells intact. Symptom onset is in early childhood, usually between ages 3 and 5. The disease primarily affects boys, but in rare cases it can affect girls The symptom of muscle weakness usually begins around the age of four in boys and worsens quickly. Typically occurs first in the thighs and  followed by those of the arms.This can result in trouble standing up.Most are unable to walk by the age of 12.Affected muscles may look larger due to increased fat content.   Scott loves soccer and his future goal is to play power soccer for Ireland. He is also a keen x box player. Our home is unfortunately not suitable for Scotts future needs . His bedroom and bathroom are too small for him to be able to have an independant life as possible.With all his equipment cramped into his room , it is getting more and more a hazard.As Scotts trips and falls frequently and we have no where to store the equipment.The most recent addition is a manual hoists - so we can hoist him off the floor if he can't get up by himself .As soon as Scott can not step up the step to our toilet , he will be without a toilet and will have to use a commode.Which is undignifying for a 12 year old .We urgently are looking to built a 25m2 fully accessible extension to Scotts bedroom.We have plans and planning permission. Due to the building boom costs for this built have shot up to approx 75000 Euro . Which we are unable to fund all on our own .
