Stohner Adoption Journey
Donation protected
Scott and Jessica are working towards an infant adoption.
In America, the average domestic adoption costs $40,000! This includes legal fees, birth mother expenses, travel costs, and agency fees.
With help from close friends and family, the Stohners have saved and been gifted most of the money needed. They have had wonderful support from both their church family and parents. They are starting the process of adoption classes and the mountains of paperwork it takes to get licensed for adoption. After licensure, the matching process begins and can take as little as 24 hours to the average wait time of 9 months. Jessica and Scott are excited about picking out names and planning the nursery. They are incredibly close to their goal and would greatly appreciate any help in putting them over the edge.
Scott and Jessica met as teenagers while attending the same university. They have faced many challenges in their relationship including chronic illness, overcoming addiction, and infertility. God has been faithful throughout and their story is truly a story of perseverance and God's redeeming love. They have been married for four years and live to help others through their chosen professions.
Scott is an adolescent drug counselor who works in a drug court program. Drug courts are supervised courts that provide a sentencing alternative of treatment combined with supervision for teenagers living with serious substance use disorders. They work together to help offenders into long term recovery. Scott chose this profession due to his own struggles as a teenager/young adult with addiction. Scott is 6 years clean and has made it his long term mission to help people in the darkness of addiction find hope.
Jessica is a pediatric speech pathologist who loves working with disabled and delayed children towards communication and feeding independence. In 2006, Jessica was diagnosed with Sjogren's disease with chronic kidney disease. Sjogren's is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the body's own tissues and organs. Without her medication, biannual chemotherapy infusions and frequent trips to specialists, Jessica would be disabled with pain and most likely in renal failure. She feels very lucky to have access to wonderful doctors and to live in a time where the medical advances are available. Due to the kidney involvement, Jessica is not able to safely carry children to term.
They believe that God's plan has been evident in every part of their lives including infertility. Their love for children with challenges has given them the heart for adoption and they are excited to see where this journey takes them.
