Secoya Coronavirus Isolation Fund

***URGENT*** In need of immediate financial aid to help isolate the Secoya (Seikopai) community of Amazonian Ecuador and Peru from the Coronavirus.  The elders and their cultural knowledge must be protected.  By donating, you are directly providing daily staples to indigenous families . The cost is $40 a month per family to provide basic essentials. We need to protect 150 households. Please help me raise $10,000 to get aid to these people for two months. 

I am personally connected with the people at Raiz Foundation. They first introduced me to the Secoya in 1993 when I lived in Ecuador. I assure you that whatever money you donate will go directly to providing for the Secoya families.  Raiz Foundation works with a grocer in the region that will deliver supplies and abide to a strict Coronavirus protocol.   

The main town upriver, Lago Agrio currently has 40 confirmed cases of  COVID19. 

The jungle can no longer sustain the Secoya community. Members have to go to town for supplies. It is very difficult to mitigate the spread of the virus in towns where street vending is an essential part of life. The fear is that someone is going to contract the virus in town and bring it back to the indigenous community where the elders would have no defense against it. Losing the elders would mean losing much of the Secoya cultural knowledge.

Please help me keep the Secoya people from having to leave their community for basic essentials so that the spread of this terrible disease doesn't devastate their families.  I know that times are so uncertain now, but together we can chip in and directly help people that have absolutely no defense against this virus.
