Scissor Me Timbers: Protect a Doll and Her Enby
Donation protected
My name is Grace and my girlfriend and I are requesting aid.
I’m an enby, my girlfriend is a trans woman, and we are both proud Latinas. We have been living in cramped quarters and sleeping on a couch for a year. We had been planning on getting our own place two months ago, but my sweet girlfriend was unceremoniously and unexpectedly laid off soon after the anti-DEI executive order was signed. I work in education and do not return to work until the school year starts, but our current living situation has become untenable. We need a real bed to sleep in and an apartment of our own. I worry for both of our mental health and safety if we do not get our own space to be with each other.
Life has become incredibly difficult and uncertain recently, especially for all of us in the queer family, and doubly so for those who belong to the trans community. My girlfriend is the kindest, most gentle person I’ve ever met, and watching her suffer this strain breaks my heart. The rise of such casual cruelty for people like her and people like me makes it so difficult to see a positive future. My girlfriend was an associate professor before she was laid off. Just 6 months ago she had been finishing up a semester she thought had gone great and was so excited to read her class reviews from her students, but all one of them said was, “There shouldn’t be a man pretending to be a woman teaching our class.” My girlfriend reported it, but has heard nothing from the college. She does her best to smile and be strong, but I see the pain that this caused her. Since being laid off and receiving this hateful review, she is so much more hesitant to engage in the world. I can’t erase that review, but I want to at least give her a bed to sleep in. I want to give her our own door to close against the storm, so we have a safe place to come home to and love each other.
