Schools are increasingly being exploited to serve as indoctrination centers to influence impressionable young minds. Such political influence is anathema to the spirit of equality and free speech built into the very foundation of our U.S. Constitution. Here in Vermont, our laws are explicit in their protections of freedom of speech and conscience among our vulnerable students:
"The General Assembly finds that freedom of expression and freedom of the press are fundamental principles in our democratic society granted to every citizen of the nation by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution...These freedoms provide all citizens, including students, with the right to engage in robust and uninhibited discussion of issues. The General Assembly intends to ensure free speech and free press protections for both public school students and students at public institutions of higher education in this State in order to encourage students to become educated, informed, and responsible members of society."
Students cannot become fully informed without that "robust and uninhibited discussion of ideas" mandated by Vermont law when they are constantly faced with the subtle forces of political indoctrination and persuasion so commonly found buried in the policies and curricula of today's schools.
SchoolHawk is dedicated to using the power of law, logic, and a passion to defend these sacred rights among our students to ensure that our future generations continue in the blessing of liberty we are so fortunate to enjoy.
