School volunteering in Ghana

Hi, my name is Aoibhinn and I am 15 years old. I have an amazing opportunity to go on a volunteering trip to Ghana in 2026.

My scout group, Kent Scouts, has teamed up with African Adventures to offer this unique opportunity to volunteer in the Volta region of Ghana.

African Adventures is a volunteer company, dedicated to improving lives in the UK and Africa through volunteering. They work with 11 schools in the Volta region of Ghana that help improve the lives of the 5,500 children who attend their schools.

I will spend time volunteering at one of the schools in a developing area of Volta. Classrooms are often overcrowded and under-resourced, and I will volunteer as a teaching assistant to help teachers to deliver sport lessons and help support small groups of students with their work. I feel very privileged and lucky when I consider the school, opportunities, and resources I have here in the UK, and I want to give something back by helping others who are less fortunate than me.

I am trying to fundraise for my trip and to buy as much educational resources as I can to take for the children who will be in my school. I appreciate 2026 is a long way off, but I need to prepare and plan now, get flights booked and start to buy the educational resources to bring to the children.
