Hello everyone My name is Mia Dion, I’m am creating this fundraiser for the children of Global Orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania. In hopes to help raise funds to keep the children in school!

A little back story about myself and my connection with the children- I spent my early twenties volunteering in Tanzania on multiple occasions- building classrooms, creating sustainable environments for the communities (planting gardens, providing clean drinking water, building chicken coops, purchasing farm animals). I am so beyond fortunate to be a part of the kids lives and to be able to support and stay in touch with them over the last 6 years!

Global Orphanage was started by the founder Eliphas Kaaya and his wife Mary with their two daughters and son McDonald.

Eliphas was a soldier in Tanzania, and at the end of his term he returned to Tanga area and became a community worker in the area.

In 2001 Eliphas and his family opened their home to a baby boy Zacharias who was left an orphan at 4 days after his mother had passed during childbirth.

While continuing his work in the communities and helping families in need- that were unable to care for the children (mothers passing at childbirth due to lack of healthcare and parents living in poverty)

Shortly after, Eliphas and his family moved back to Tengeru, building a house next to his parents.

By 2009 , the family had taken in 4 more children into their home to join their growing family (Enjo, Secilia, Nickson and Jackling) followed by Dorcas and Jackson in 2010.

Finally in 2012 Global Orphanage was officially set-up as a small building in the community where 3 more children joined Joseph,Nelson and Aneti (brother and sister) and Agnes arrived, 2013.

With the rising number of children without families or homes the orphanage welcomed he arrival of 8 more beautiful children names Loveness, Vincent, James, Pauline and Margaret (sisters), Albinus and Sebastian & Maureen in 2014. Which had completed the family to 19 ❤️

Eliphace tragically passed away in April 2016 from Diabetes.

His son Macdonald , who was only 21 at the time, stopped his studies to take over the orphanage in hopes to care for his family and guide them through their childhood, while being a positive role model for his family❤️

He graciously gave up his education in order to provide for the children with hopes to be able to support them through school.

He too hopes that someday he could resume studying Community Development- however he selflessly puts the children and their futures ahead of his own ❤️

Currently McDonald and his mother Mary, and Joyce (a volunteer who lives a 45 minute walk away) are caring for the children, creating a very happy safe home for them with so much love and support.

It is very unfortunate that I’m their country the children do not have free access to schooling and if the fees are not paid for the upcoming semester by September 1st, the children will be pulled out of school :’(

There are currently 21 children at the orphanage which we hope to help support.
