School Construction Project in Guatemala

Hello!

On the 10th July I am flying out to Guatemala to volunteer on a school construction project for 4 weeks. I am helping to build and design a new 'mindfulness' space with the international community architecture firm CAUKIN. (More info below)

To raise money to pay for the flights, 4 weeks of accommodation and food I will be doing a sponsored RUN 1 MILE EVERY HOUR FOR 24 HOURS! This will be on Monday 7th July. Please donate!!!

More about the project:

Colegio Mesoamericano have been running for 25 years. The non-profit foundation is on a mission to empower the native people of Guatemala with opportunities. Around half the students at the school get in through scholarships, offering the same quality education experience for those who are in major poverty and those who can afford to go to school.

The school has a strong focus on mindfulness and mental wellbeing and are in need of a dedicated space away from the main school grounds to provide a safe, private environment where children can have one-on-one sessions with counsellors or teachers to address personal challenges, whether emotional, academic, or behavioural.

Along with a team of around 30 (mostly architecture) students from around the world alongside local labourers we will build this new pavilion space over the course of 8 weeks.

The project will also teach me real life design and construction techniques, growing me in my journey to become an architect.
