Scholarships for Aspiring Firefighters

Hi, my name is Hakim Coggins. I’m a Community Engagement Specialist, advocate, and founder of Newport Bridge, a grassroots initiative focused on breaking cycles of poverty and promoting equity in underserved communities. I’ve worked closely with youth, families, and local partners for years to create opportunities that inspire growth, healing, and leadership.

Right now, I’m leading an effort to launch the Firefighter Futures Scholarship Program—a powerful new initiative that will be introduced at our Firefighter Recruitment & Safety Event. This scholarship is designed to cover the cost of application and onboarding fees for individuals from marginalized backgrounds who want to pursue a career in firefighting but may not have the financial means to get started.

I believe representation and access matter—and with your support, we can ignite a future in fire service for young people who’ve been historically left out of these opportunities.
