South Cambs District Council Cost of Living appeal

This donation page is an appeal to help those most vulnerable in the district have access to more support during this period. The money raised will ensure lower cost alternatives to cooking and staying warm, such as slow cookers and electric blankets, can be distributed to people in need.

We are initially aiming to raise £10,000 to help those in need. The funding the Council has already pledged could see around 400 people supported with free electric blankets and slow cookers but even more can be done if donations are received.

As prices rise and temperatures drop, the number of people requiring extra support for the cost of living will increase this winter. In the coming months, more people across the district will struggle to pay their energy bills. Because of the stretch on people’s finances, they will not be able to buy the lower-cost alternatives to cooking and staying warm. This issue is particularly prevalent as we approach the coldest part of the year, coupled with the highest energy prices this year. According to Martin Lewis, an electric blanket costs in the region of £1.50 a week to run if you were to use it for 7 hours a day. Using this as an alternative to central heating has the potential to make a huge impact on people’s bills.

In the event that there is more money than we need for this specific project, all leftover money will be used for similar projects to tackle the cost of living crisis in South Cambridgeshire, such as the delivery of food parcels to those in need.

We know that most people in the district are feeling the effect of the Cost of Living crisis, but any donations will go a long way to improving the lives of those struggling most this winter.
