SCA Thanksgiving Meal for Those in Need

Since 2002, the Sociedade Cultural Acoriana Club has given out Thanksgiving dinners to those in need. It all started with one member’s dream to feed the less fortunate among us - then a group of family and friends made it happen!

Previously, those in need would come and have lunch at the Organization where they would be served a great meal on china with silverware to make the day feel special. A group of volunteers would also deliver to those who didn’t have any means of transportation. Due to the pandemic most of the meals will again be delivered this year.

A BIG Thank You for all for the generosity put forth last year to help fund this special event. Through your generous donations and the tireless effort of so many volunteers who helped cook, assemble, and deliver meals, the club was able to serve just under 1000 people living in the Greater Fall River area. A truly inspiring and selfless act of kindness.

Several of us experienced this tremendous generosity first-hand last year. We left humbled and thankful for the efforts of so many people! Most of us are aware of the need to bring a smile to someone on Thanksgiving, but to experience it first-hand is something special. Year after year this need continues to grow. The folks served through this wonderful community effort come from all walks of life, young and old, often lonely but all with a common need. The Sociedade Cultural Acoriana fills a huge void for many people every year and truly makes everyone's holiday a little brighter!

The work starts weeks in advance with the ordering of the food and finding restaurants in the area to help prepare and cook hundreds of turkeys! It’s truly remarkable the effort that goes into this event!
