The Community Group committed to the awarenes of the Tullacondra Wind Farm have warned that hundreds of people who are completely unaware of the proposed development are likely to be negatively impacted if the project goes ahead.
The Scale, size and nature of the wind farm for which permission is being sought in the Lisgriffin/Ballyclough area will have serious implications for residents of numerous townlands between the proposed site and the substation to which it is proposed to connect in St Joseph’s Road Mallow.
We would like to make people aware that 9 wind turbines each with a blade tip height of 175 metres, rotor diameter of 150 metres, hub height of 100 metres and a rated output of 4.5 megawatts. Also a permanent meteorological mast of 100 metres height above ground level on a concrete base. 10 structures in total all over 100 metres which will drastically change the lives of many people in this area. To add to this the installation of approximately 13.5 kilometres of 38 kilovolts underground electrical cabling, between the proposed wind farm substation to the boundary of Mallow 110 kilovolt substation.
The prolonged period of construction would result in thousands of heavy vehicle journeys over narrow country roads which were never designed to carry such traffic. The current road system in the area isn’t suitable for the current traffic that uses the road, to add such a large volume of traffic within close proximity to local schools could have nothing but negative effects.
The Community group believe that the residents in the immediate vicinity of the proposed development have a strong case to oppose it based on its location ,scale and size as well as the implications for their health and the potential devastating effect on the environment, and wildlife over a wide area. This proposed wind farm will take up to 40.5 acres of air space from the birds in our area and has the potential to diminish the local bird population in the area.
The group are anxious to emphasise that given the size of these turbines-amongst the largest in Western Europe-equivalent to almost 3 times the size of the County Hall in Cork- standing at 175 metres tall and with their negative impact will be felt over a much wider area than people realise and they appeal to all adjoining communities to inform themselves of the proposed development immediately by checking out the details of the planning application.
We are kindly asking you to help us raise funds which will go towards paying for expert advice on topics such as planning, legal matters, noise, and the environment, as well as day-to-day expenses like printing, signage and postage.
