****UPDATE!! K9 Bevo certified this morning with his temporary handler and is now a CLEET certified narcotics detection dog! So proud of my boy and his buddy Carrie!****

My name is Sgt. Ian Wilkinson with the Sawyer, OK Police Department.   We are a very small agency in SE Oklahoma and serve a very small and very poor community that has been ravaged by narcotics, primarily methamphetamine and, subsequently have a very high rate of property crime and other criminal activity that’s created by the rampant use of this horrible drug. 

Being such a small agency, there simply aren’t enough of us to make an efficient dent in this problem without employing a K9 to increase the efficiency of our efforts.We have researched the effectiveness of a well-trained and well-handled CDS detection K9 and believe it will drastically improve our ability to serve the people of this town. 

The issue is the cost. I am trying to do this through donations and fundraising to alleviate the burden placed on the taxpayers of the town, as they’re already stretched thin. I will serve as the handler and he will he kept at my residence and will be under my sole care both on and off duty. This money I’m attempting to raise here will pay for the dog himself, and I’m working other fundraisers and donations for his vehicle insert and other equipment to allow him to do his job safely and efficiently. 

If you know me, you know I HATE asking for help, especially money. But I can’t do this on my own. I tried, but with a baby on the way, it’s not in the cards. Any supportis humbly and gratefully accepted and you have my solemn word it will be spent wisely. Thank you for your support and for backing the blue. We can’t do it without you. 

Per GoFundMe’s request, this is an update to make people aware the funds that you’ve been so gracious to donate are being transferred to the account of one of town Board of Trustees, Kat Brainerd, whereupon it will be transferred to Bevos owner/trainer for secure his purchase for agency use. Bevo is going to be personally owned by me, and leased to the Town of Sawyer for $1/yr to comply with law and make insurance coverage available to him. The money is being handled the way it is to avoid any possibility of the argument being made by any future city administrator that the city paid for the dog.
