“There are words in the soul of a newborn baby, wanting and waiting to be written.” – Toba Beta

Every chapter of ones life brings a different set of emotions. For John Mark and Jordan this particular chapter has been filled with a conglomeration of emotions: hope, faith, fear, sadness, and joy.  While they morn the loss of one darling baby girl, Scout Hope, they sit on the sidelines and cheer little Sawyer Grace as she fights for her life.  Please join the team by helping monetarily supporting the Sullivan family.  A account has been set up at First National Bank of Elk City to assist with the many needs that will arise.  You are also welcome to donate via GoFundMe.

John Mark and Jordan have struggled to have a child for many years; enduring miscarriages.  They’ve experienced many heartbreaks during this season.  You can only imagine the elation they felt when our Lord and Savior allowed them to get pregnant naturally with not one, but two baby girls.  The Sullivans knew the importance of remaining cautious during pregnancy.  Jordan woke up one morning during her 13 week of pregnancy, as mothers do, her motherly  intuition told her that something was wrong.  An ultra sound was ordered and the news was delivered that the heart beats differed between the girl up to 40 beats per minute.   They also found that little Scout was not moving as much as her sister, Sawyer.  Along with the abnormal heart beat and lack of movement by Scout, Jordan’s abdomen began to grow larger than a normal twin pregnancy.   At 18 weeks, the Sullivans were sent to a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist.  This particular appointment revealed devastating news, but not all hope was lost. The sisters shared more than their looks; they shared their placenta.  The placenta supplies blood, oxygen, and nutrients to aid in healthy development.  The girls were diagnosed with Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome which caused unequal sharing of the vital components of development.   Scout was pumping blood to Sawyer and not supplying herself with an adequate blood supply.  Due to this, Scout, became anemic and her kidneys stopped producing fluid; furthermore, the amniotic sack began to shrink. Sawyer; however, had the opposite problem.  Her little kidneys had no choice, but to work overtime.  The specialist immediately sent The Sullivans to Herman Memorial Hospital in Houston, TX.  In Houston, the family was informed that the Sullivan baby girls had stage three Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome. The doctors in Houston ordered immediate fetal surgery to correct the unequal sharing. On the roller coaster called life, the Sullivans, once again we’re hopeful when the surgery was a success.  Although, improvement was not immediate, there was improvement. Within two weeks, the amniotic sack had separated and Jordan was put on full-time bedrest.  A short two weeks after that, they were told the amniotic sack had separated from the uterus, a dangerous complication which could cause PPROM, premature rupture of the membranes, which would cause labor. Jordan had to continue to be on bedrest, one week after learning the membrane had separated, Jordan and Jon Mark learned that the membrane separating the girls had ruptured, another dangerous complication because of the risk of entangling the umbilical cords. They were both scared, this pregnancy had been very rocky from the beginning, but they continued to pray and trust that God would protect their baby girls. One night, Jordan woke up to some excruciating pain, she went to the bathroom to discover she was bleeding, a terrifying thing for any pregnant woman. She went to the emergency room and was eventually mediflighted to Mercy in Oklahoma City. The doctors determined that her membrane holding the babies had in fact ruptured. She was admitted into the hospital on a Thursday. That following Sunday, Jordan went to the restroom and was terrified at the amount of blood she was losing. After being examined and checking on the girls by ultrasound and Doppler, the doctor told Jordan and Jon Mark they couldn't wait anymore, the girls would have to be delivered immediately. The rupture and bleeding was dangerous, not only for the babies, but also for Jordan. So, that morning at 1:16am, Scout and Sawyer Sullivan were born by emergency C-section. They were both intubated immediately then taken to the NICU where doctors and nurses tried to stabilize them. 4 hours after their birth, Jon Mark and Jordan were told that their girls were "stable, but critical". The Sullivans and their families have shown unimaginable faith as they have rallied around these precious souls.  The family is no stranger to loss and heartbreak. They know in such a time as this to lean on the Lord.
