$55,000 to cover the cost of moving and coordinating the utility lines along Park Street during Move Day is the remaining financial hurdle to saving the Hiram S Dooley House. Please help us.
The historic Hiram S. Dooley House on Pecan Street in Abingdon, built in 1849, must be moved to be saved. To preserve this piece of Abingdon’s heritage, we hope to move the home ~200 feet to an adjacent lot on Park Street (See Below). Sinking Springs Presbyterian Church and the Town of Abingdon have been supportive and granted permission to find a solution for the move.
The expense to move the house and prepare the new site before remodel is running well into six figures. While we can make a case for the move to be financially feasible, the additional cost and coordination of dropping the utility lines that are on the poles along Park Street makes the move fiscally prohibitive. Over the past six weeks, regional utilities (AEP, Century Link, Comcast, Point Broadband and Segra) have visited the site and provided quotes. Collectively, the cost runs just over $55,000.
We are committed to move the house in May if funding for utilities can be secured. To meet this timeline, funding will need to be secured by Monday, April 12th.
Many of you have shown your support on social media. We are grateful that you helped us get this far. Now we need each and every person that said this house needs to be saved, signed a petition or just love old houses to rally one more time to help us raise money to cover these utility costs. No donation is too small if enough supporters rally together to ensure the Hiram S Dooley House has a new Home.
