Saving Open Space is dedicated to defending natural areas and quality of life in Corvallis, OR.

Saving Open Space (SOS) and Northwest Alliance Corvallis (NWAC)  have joined efforts to oppose the annexation of 41 acres of property in Benton County to the City of Corvallis for housing development. The property borders the McDonald Research Forest, adjacent to Timberhill neighborhoods and Chip Ross Park in NW Corvallis.

The developer’s proposal limits the current dirt paths used by many area hikers, walkers, and cyclists to access the Forest. Should this annexation proceed, the area will be excavated to accommodate a fifty-foot road, accompanying infrastructure, and dozens of homes.

The SOS and NWAC oppose this annexation and development for the following reasons:

·      Excess stormwater runoff increasing the risk of downstream flooding and damage
·      Increased traffic
·      Reduced dirt path access
·      Destruction of habitat for at-risk or sensitive species, such as the Acorn Woodpecker
·      Riparian Zone disruption
·      Wanton disregard for the preservation of current ecological systems

Corvallis has already lost hundreds of acres of natural areas and open spaces. Does this proposed annexation and development improve
the quality of life for local residents?

Fighting for this open space requires expertise. SOS and NWAC have opted to enlist the services of Oregon Land Use Attorneys to assist in this fight. Your support will give us the best shot at preserving this irreplaceable open space for our entire community!

Northwest Alliance Corvallis – Oregon Business Registry: 10950756. Note that while we are a non-profit community group, we are not a
501 (c) organization and donations are not tax-deductible.  SOS has hired a Land Use Attorney and donations will primarily be used for attorney fees.

Your donations will help save these beautiful areas....see photos

Location of proposed new development

Views would be irrevocably altered by the proposed development

Beloved walking paths would no longer be available to the thousands who use them

These trees would be sacrificed to make room for a new road

The beautiful Acorn Woodpecker, considered a sensitive species, would lose habitat

This peaceful natural area would be replaced by pavement and houses

Overlay of proposed development on to area just below OSU McDonald Research Forest. Restricts access to the forest.
