Saving Jordyn's Home
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Katheryn, and I am fundraising to help my sister, Jessica, and my niece, Jordyn keep their home!
Jessica is a kind, loving, generous, and beautiful human being. She is a fun, present, nurturing mother, a reliable, hardworking employee, and a wonderful sister, daughter and friend who helps and supports those around her.
She has conquered many challenges in her life, and has come through each one with grace and strength. Jordyn is a sweet, cheerful, fun little girl who loves pink, purple, unicorns, princesses, and her mommy!
To give you some background, here are a couple of the major trials that Jessica has overcome in the past:
-An automobile accident while on a trip out of state that left her with injuries so severe that she was unable to travel home for several months.
-Losing her first husband to suicide.
Jessica then married a second time, and her perfect princess Jordyn was born. Unfortunately, Jessica found herself in a relationship where she was in constant physical and emotional danger. Her home was damaged, and she was injured. She was concerned for her baby’s safety. The extreme stress was making her physically ill. While enduring isolation, manipulation and other abuse, Jessica summoned the courage to apply for a protective order. The protective order was approved immediately. What a relief that was! She hired an attorney and filed for divorce.
Jessica had purchased our grandmother's home after she passed away in 2020. The house has tremendous sentimental value and provides a cornerstone of stability. It is in an ideal location for Jessica and Jordyn as it is close to family. Because Jessica purchased her house while she was married, her ex-husband is legally entitled to half of the equity. Jessica has a deadline of November 1st, 2023 to pay him $93,000 for the equity buy-out. If she isn't able to make that payment in time, her divorce decree mandates that her house immediately be put up for sale.
She is also dealing with the cost of hiring an attorney, income loss due to time off of work for mediation, meetings with her attorney, and court hearings.
What we've accomplished so far:
Jessica has been saving what money she can. She has been picking up overtime shifts at work when she's able to. She has accepted help from our church with food and other donations to help cover some of her bills, allowing her to save more money toward the buy-out total. One of her friends from work has very generously used their time and skills to help make her house more safe and functional until complete repairs can be afforded.
Jessica currently has $20,000 of her own. There is $58,000 available for her to borrow from family. The bank will not loan her any money unless her ex-husband signs a document stating that he will not try to claim rights to the house. He has refused to sign that document.
Other Needs:
In addition to the equity buy-out, Jessica was left with $28,000 of other debt after the divorce. The cost of repairing the damage to her house was quoted at over $100,000.
With your help, Jessica and Jordyn will be able to keep their home, make it into their own safe haven, and move forward-continuing to cultivate a joyful life for the two of them.
Donations will first go toward the $15,000 needed to complete the equity buy-out. Anything beyond that will go toward paying off the additional debt, reducing the amount she needs to borrow from family, and repairing the house.
I would love for my sister to be able to fully move on from this tragedy as soon as possible. She is facing many more years of working to pay off the cost of keeping and repairing her home in the wake of her abuser. Any help you can offer will mean the world to Jessica and to me!
